Free physical activity sessions for your school

Thanks to funding through VicHealth, Sport North East offers either 6 or 8 free physical activity sessions for small schools in the northeast to engage your children in sports and active recreation.

A member of our team can come to your school (or catch up with me on Teams or Zoom) on a day and time of your choice to discuss this program in more detail and review the various activities available from our catalogue to increase the activity levels of the children in your school. We offer the following to get them playing and moving:

As a division of The Centre for Continuing Education Inc; a Child Safe Organisation,  all of the Sport North East team have completed police checks and carry current WWC cards.

Tim Oliver – Manager Sport North East
Tim has a lifelong interest in sport as a player, accredited coach, and administrator. Tim has coached junior teams and development squads in tennis, basketball and football and has recently become a qualified pickleball coach.
Supporting children to participate in sport or active recreation is what brought Tim to join Sport North East in 2020.
Shankar Menon – Sport & Recreation Development Officer
With a Master of Business (Sport Management) degree from Deakin University, Shankar has been part of Sport North East since January 2020 as a Sport & Recreation Development Officer. With over 12 years coaching and administrative experience with sports like Soccer, Tennis, Pickleball, Futsal, Cricket, Volleyball, and an overall playing/participation experience spanning nearly 3 decades. Shankar is currently the head coach of the U16 boys Representative Soccer team representing the Albury Wodonga Football Association.
Varshana Swamy – Sport & Recreation Development Officer
Varshana graduated with a master’s degree in Sport Management from Deakin University. She has a keen interest in community sport and administration and growing sporting opportunities for community. Varshana is a Badminton fanatic playing since childhood. Other sports that interest Varshana are Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Pickleball.
Pranav Menon – Sport & Recreation Development Officer
Pranav has a master’s degree in Sport Management from Deakin University.
Pranav is passionate about developing community sport and increasing pathways for group participation in sport.
Pranav is a semi professional cricketer, playing for Prahran in 2021 and the Wangaratta Magpies in 2022, leading the batting averages and worked closely with the junior Magpies developing their game.
Melanie Elliott – Admin Support for Sport North East
Melanie has completed her bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion at La Trobe University and has worked in Disability and the Youth Sector, supporting health and wellbeing in the community. Melanie provides Admin Support to the Sport North East Team and leads our social media presence. In her spare time, Mel is a mother of twins.
