Summer School Holiday Program Wrap

The Summer edition of the School Holiday Program welcomed the inclusion of sessions held in Wodonga for the first time!

Wodonga was a welcome addition to the holiday program these past school holidays with Hockey, Footy and cricket offered in the Wodonga area. Wangaratta also introduced a few new sports with the Wangaratta Hockey, Soccer and Baseball clubs hosting their first sessions, while footy and racquetball were returning sports.

Wodonga kicked off with the Wodonga Hockey Club hosting the first session on Monday the 23rd, 13 kids braved the early morning heat as they were put through their paces and learnt some new skills. The club did a great job along with also treating the kids with a icy pole to cool off after the session!

Football and cricket both enjoyed slightly cooler mornings down at Kelly Park, with just over 20 kids at both sessions.

33 kids participated across the three sports which is a great launching pad for the program in Wodonga and with discussions already underway with a number of clubs the program looks to be bigger and better in the coming Autumn holidays.

If you club or association is interested in hosting a session in the future please contact Zac Hedin on (03) 5721 0250 or email zac.hedin@thecentre.vic.edu.au.

Hockey

The Wangaratta program continues to go from strength to strength with 3 new sports clubs involved and almost every session was booked out prior to their session starting.

The Hockey Club kicked things off with an impressive 24 kids attending the session, a great lead into their Hook In2 Hockey program that starts on the 23rd of February.

Racquetball was a returning sport these holidays and with a new junior racquetball program hitting off in early February it was a great way to get some kids involved and interested in the comp. So far it looks like at least 4 kids from the Holiday program have moved into the competition which is a great result!

Our biggest turn out for Summer was the Soccer session with an impressive 29 kids turning out, and the club did not disappoint, a well run session with all kids walking away happy and satisfied with the session.

Footy is back, courtesy of the team at AFL North East Border, while it was still mid summer footy never sleeps, and with Auskick Registrations opening up in Feb it was a great time to get 23 kids thinking about the oval shaped ball again.

Finally we had a late comer in baseball join the program, while it was a last minute addition, kids still flocked to give it a go with 15 new comers to the sport giving it a go. A smaller club than some of our other sports but a great session none the less!

Another great holiday program packed full of sports action in both Wangaratta and Wodonga, well done to all the clubs involved and thanks to all the kids and parents who came along to have a go!
