What's On Offer for Sporting Clubs and Active Recreation

Covid-19

Last updated: Thursday, 26th March 3.22pm

As we have seen over the past week, the Federal and State governments are moving swiftly with extremely strict measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

On the 24th of March, the Department of Education and Training (DET) clarified the position of The Centre for Continuing Education Inc as an essential service (Sport North East is a program of The Centre). The Centre remains open and continues to deliver education and training to our learners and programs within our community. We have an important role within the communities in which we operate to provide a service for upskilling and preparing the emerging workforce and supporting our local clubs and sport and recreation community. This essential role has not changed.

In most instances, our course and program delivery will change. Our staff are currently focused on preparing our courses and community engagement for delivery in our Virtual Classroom. These changes will be implemented for our VET learners when they return from their school holiday break during the week of 13th April 2020. All learners will be fully supported to make this transition by our teaching and learner support teams. Sport North East and Community Programs have already made the move to an online platform

This means that our facilities will remain operational, but that we will start to have less student activity and attendance on campus. For our facility to remain open, we ask all visitors to The Centre to ensure they adhere to the social and physical distancing and hygiene measures that have been put in place.

Our virtual classrooms will operate in a similar way to how our face to face training has operated – with the focus still directed at meeting the needs of each individual learner.

Learners, trainers and other key stakeholders of The Centre have been contacted directly to be informed of the changes that have been put in place. They will be contacted again when these actions or advice changes.

This is an unprecedented global health emergency and the significant measures the Government has announced must be taken very seriously.

We understand that our learners are likely to be concerned and worried, which is absolutely understandable in this time of uncertainty.
